Send a climate selfie video to Joe Manchin

The Citizens Climate Lobby WV has launched a creative and timely outreach to Senator Joe Manchin! Send a 15-second "selfie" video telling Senator Manchin that West VIrginians want him to enact serious and meaningful climate solutions in the $3.5 trillion reconciliation package. More than 25 people have submitted videos already! You can read about the reconciliation package here: West Virginia needs the Biden energy agenda

Information about recording and uploading a video is below. Basically, you create the "selfie" video and upload to this Google folder. Citizen Climate Lobby national will help get the videos out around the state and beyond. Feel free to spread the word so as many West Virginians as possible make videos for Senator Manchin. It's time to keep the pressure on.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE CCL WV VIDEO PROJECT

PLEASE UPLOAD VIDEOS BY SATURDAY, SEPT. 11: Time is of the essence. Manchin and colleagues in the US Congress are now considering which climate solutions they'll include in the $3.5 trillion reconciliation budget package. This could be our last chance to demand meaningful climate solutions.

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR VIDEO (Length should be about 15 seconds)

"My name is ___________.
I'm a (YOUR INFO HERE--nurse, engineer, student, skier, parent...)

I'm a West Virginian (can mention your town if you like) who is concerned about climate change and I am asking Senator Manchin to support bold action to address the climate crisis"

You can make the message personal by using your own words, and the "ask" to Sen. Machin can vary. If you want to be specific you could ask him to support a robust Clean Energy Payment Program or other solution of your choosing. It's the expression of concern and desire for leadership with a call for action that is important.

VIDEO RECORDING GUIDELINES

  • Hold the phone horizontally when shooting.

  • Be sure the subject is well lit (lighting should fall on the subject's face, vs. light coming from behind) and there is no extraneous loud audio in the background (air conditioner hum, dogs barking, cars or train going by, etc.).

  • If possible, use a background that says something about you--such as your workplace, neighborhood, special interest (bike, playground, etc)--or about your town or about WV.

  • For the selfie, position yourself about one full arms-length from your phone, your eyes should be roughly in line with the phone camera. If your camera is too low (i.e. you need to look down at it), adjust the camera height.

  • You want to take up most of the screen but leave some empty space around the top and on the sides, but avoid too much empty space above your head.

WHERE TO SUBMIT VIDEOS

1) Name the video file with your name and town, if possible. Upload to the following google folder:
